WAH Nails

We visited WAH Nails on Kingsland Road in Dalston, East London's first style-centric nail bar, bookstore, gallery and boutique! It's positioned between a kebab shop and a local chemist, hiding it from the masses, keeping it low key but well known to those who know of its existence or find it purely by accident. I found from the outside it didn't wow, but once inside the decor was mature, modern, bright and stylish. The women working the shop were friendly and helpful, allowing us to take photos and look through a large folder of out there nail designs, even coming across a 3-D Cruella De Ville!! The shop was beautifully designed and you could clearly see a great deal of talent was present!

Street Style

So here are the few extraordinary people we were able to meet, where their style stood out, and we wanted to share this within our project in describing East London.

Karina's point of view

So my visit to East London, along with my smaller group was fascinating! Coming from a town where most people dress safely and the same as everybody else it was such a breath of fresh air to see people really expressing themselves through their clothes! We managed to stop a few of these people for our Street Style photos, and have a small chat with them, their personality reflecting the clothes they were wearing! All the boutiques and vintage stores we visited were beautiful, and again, from my hometown, we have nothing like it. So artistic and imaginative were these shops, it's such a shame we can't take photos inside! My favourite shop was a book shop called Artswordsbooks, the fashion magazines and books inside were wonderful! For me to be able to look at fashion magazines I'd heard of but never been able to get my hands on and look through was so exciting!
We asked our Street Style people to describe East London in 3 words...my 3 words would be
interesting, unique and artistic. I've never seen anything like it!

Troy Bar

Walking through Hoxton last night and came across 'Troy Bar'. I actually haven't been in here in year's but I remember coming to watch a friends band play at open mic night so I thought i'd go in and see what was going on...

An amazing Spanish band ( El Tribu) was playing the blues! It was only a rehearsal but the music was just as beautiful. I met these two musicians too and we got to talking; the guy in picture seven is Patrick Lyons a music producer who's been in music since his 16th birthday! ( Got his business card if anyone would like to get in touch with him)

Picture six is of his close friend Yemi who played drums for the greatest afro beat musician that ever lived Fela Anikulapo Kuti, also known as Fela Ransome- Kuti for 9 years! Blog about Fela Anikulapo Kuti coming soon!
